What is I Can Smell You from Here?

You are going on your first date with your first match from a dating app. What begins as a conversation becomes a story about the pressure of maintaining a lie. The developer describes a familiar fear: once you invent one detail, you may need increasingly unlikely explanations to keep your account consistent.

This is a visual novel by catproblem9735, who is credited with its writing, game design, art, animation, music, sound effects, and programming. The official listing describes meaningful choices, five endings, and a psychological evaluation showing how your relationship developed during each run.

The artwork on this site comes from the developer’s public itch.io listing. This independent player site provides the browser build, control references, and links to the original releases.

A conversation worth paying attention to

Read the dialogue at your own pace and notice what you have already said. For a first playthrough, choose responses that interest you and let the story unfold. The guides here introduce the controls and premise without claiming an unverified sequence of answers for any ending.

Use Enter, Space, or the left mouse button to advance text. Move between choices with the arrow keys or scroll wheel, then hold the confirmation control to commit. The scroll wheel also lets you review recent dialogue, and Tab opens the options.

The developer lists about half an hour as the average session length. That is a listing estimate, so leave yourself time to read and explore rather than treating it as a deadline. If you prefer an installed release, the official page lists Windows, Linux, and Android alongside the HTML5 build.

Start your first browser session

Read the content warning, then select BEGIN THE DATE in the player above. The game loads inside this page; wait for its own screen before using the dialogue controls. Click inside the game when you are ready so that keyboard input goes to the player. If Space scrolls this webpage instead of advancing text, click the game area again and try Enter.

Fullscreen is available below the player if you want more room for the artwork and dialogue. You can stay in the regular page view too. Read the opening conversation before experimenting with fast-forward, and use the options to adjust the experience when needed.

Why a click may not confirm your answer

Advancing text and choosing a dialogue response use different inputs. A press of Enter, Space, or the left mouse button advances dialogue or confirms a non-dialogue choice. For a dialogue choice, first move the selection with the arrow keys or scroll wheel, then hold one of those confirmation controls. A quick click alone may therefore leave the conversation waiting for your answer.

Holding a confirmation control for three seconds fast-forwards dialogue until the next choice. The scroll wheel can review earlier lines up to the previous save point or choice; it is not an unlimited transcript of the whole run. Release the control when you want to return to reading at your own pace.

Explore another ending without a spoiler checklist

For your first run, a useful approach is to follow the conversation and choose what interests you. Afterward, note the ending and relationship evaluation you received. On a later run, try changing a response you remember and compare how the conversation develops. Keeping a few notes can make that comparison easier than changing every answer at once.

This is a suggestion for exploring the story, not a guaranteed route to a particular outcome. Five endings does not mean that five attempts will reveal them all. Our endings page explains what is confirmed, while the beginner guide keeps the first session free of plot spoilers.

If the browser player does not respond

If the game screen has loaded but your inputs do nothing, check the player’s focus and the hold-to-confirm behavior first. If the screen stays on loading or shows an error, try opening the official itch.io player directly. This helps distinguish a problem with the embedded view from one affecting the game on its original page. Reloading may interrupt your current session, so use it after these checks.

For Android, the developer recommends the official APK when the browser version does not work. The download page points to the original files rather than a repackaged copy. For other player problems, follow the troubleshooting notes; browser availability does not guarantee that every device can run the game.
